Survey: 62% of consumers plan to make purchases with their mobile devices this holiday season

More consumers are planning to use their mobile device to make a purchase this holiday season than ever before, according to a joint national survey conducted by Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase Inc., the global leader in mobile messaging and mobile commerce services and the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), the leading global trade association for the mobile industry.  The survey of 1,000 consumers found that more than half (62%) would be willing to make a purchase on their mobile device this holiday season if prompted by coupons, discount offers, text alerts, gift cards or loyalty points. In a similar survey conducted by Sybase 365 a year ago, only 32% of respondents said that mobile incentives would encourage them to make a purchase on their device.…

eBay calls on UK government to support m-commerce

eBay is lobbying the UK government to take mobile more seriously as an industry that can help haul the UK out of economic gloom. Delivering a Mobile Manifesto to the government today, the online auction house – and leading mobile retailer – is calling for the government to help the industry and policy makers grow the already downturn bucking mobile industry.  The UK’s digital communications industry – including mobile operations from retailers, network providers and developers – is worth more than £50 billion to the UK economy, according to a recent report prepared for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and directly employs 531,000 UK workers…

Report:  Mobile search to comprise nearly 22% of ad spend

Search on mobile devices continues to fuel marketing campaigns, but attribution management tools must evolve to take full advantage of the 16% to 22% mobile marketing ad spend that Efficient Frontier estimates will materialize by 2012.  The majority of searches that begin on a mobile device end on desktops or in stores.  eMarketer estimates that U.S. marketers will invest almost $4.4 billion in mobile advertising by 2015, up from $1 billion this year...

HID Global and Sony announce NFC-enabled contactless smart card reader platform

HID Global, which develops solutions for the delivery of secure identity, and Sony Corporation today announced a jointly developed contactless smart card reader platform that embeds secure access control capabilities and Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality into laptops and other mobile devices. The platform holds a secure element that stores cryptographic keys which secure the authenticity and integrity of user credentials. It supports widely used contactless technologies for applications ranging from physical access control and identity assurance at the desktop to transit-fare, point-of-sale collection and loyalty programs…
