Study: 34% of in-store consumers compare prices on mobile devices
JWire, has released a new “Mobile Audience Insights Report” which highlights the continued growth of connected mobile devices (i.e. smartphones and tablets) as well as the growing role of mobile devices in the brick-and-mortar shopping experience.
One of the big findings of the study, which was drawn from a randomized sample of 4,000 respondents, is that consumers are increasingly using their smartphones to compare prices and products while at a store location. “What we found here was that 34% of consumers like to comparison shop on their mobile device,” David Staas, JiWire’s VP of marketing, told Street Fight. “Retailers are becoming increasingly concerned with consumers using their locations as a showroom, then finding the best price on their mobile device and purchasing elsewhere.”.…
Domino’s UK sets sights on mobile payments in 2012
Domino's will focus more on mobile payments systems and its Twitter presence this year. Simon Wallis, Domino's Pizza UK's sales and marketing director, said the company is looking to enhance customers' experience through digital channels, and that they could pay directly from their phone bills or through a mobile payment system connected to a credit card account.
Last week, Domino's UK, which also covers units in Ireland, reported that 44% of all orders are made through a digital channel, with about 14 percent coming through a wireless device such as a tablet.
First Annapolis: Mobile payments now widely accepted among retailers
Mobile payments are now as widely accepted as online payments among the nation's top 10 retailers, according to a survey released in February 2012 by First Annapolis Consulting.
All of the nation's 10 biggest retailers accept both online and mobile payments, the survey said. The large majority of these top retailers also accept gift card payments online (nine of 10 retailers) and via mobile (seven of 10 retailers)…
Forrester: 1B smartphone users by 2016
Forrester predicts that 1 billion people worldwide will own smartphones by 2016. In addition, consumer spending on mobile applications is expected to hit $56 billion that year, creating an enormous earnings possibility for businesses with strong mobile development policies....
Report: 52% of local-mobile search clicks turned into calls
Local-mobile ad network xAd released data from Q4 2011 this morning. The US-based information is drawn from mobile sites and apps that run its ads and the related user behaviors that xAd observes. Ad performance reported by xAd exceeds comparable online CTRs for both search and display. The network said that average CTRs in Q4 for local search ads were 7 percent, while locally targeted display ads yielded 0.6 CTRs.
Beyond the initial click xAd captures “secondary actions” (i.e., calls, map lookups). The company said that among those who clicked on ads, 37 percent of search clicks and 5 percent of display CTRs delivered these secondary actions….
Google: 62% of restaurant searches were mobile on Valentine’s Day
According to Google 62% of restaurant related searches on Valentine's Day were from "high end mobile devices or tablets." The volume of searches for restaurants was up drastically between 7th of February and Valentine's day, from all devices. Google says that desktop searches spiked by 142%, tablet searches by 135%, and by 359% on mobile devices….
